Mr. Wellbeloved

Bank’s 5 Island is such an amazing and uniquely complex white rum and I wanted to make a twist on a Daiquiri with it. From the mid 1700’s until July 31st, 1970, each sailor in the British Royal Navy was given a daily ration of Rum. Once they realized that it wasn’t a good idea to have sailors piloting nuclear powered submarines sipping Rum, the decision was made to end the tradition. On the evening of January 28th, 1970, member of Parliament James Wellbeloved stood passionately for over an hour to defend the tradition in what became known as the ‘Great Rum Debate’. He may not have won the debate, but he sure deserves to have a great Rum drink made in his name.

1 ½ oz Bank's 5 Island White Rum

½  oz Meletti Annisette

½ oz Dolin Blanc Vermouth

½ oz Orgeat Syrup

1 oz Fresh Lime Juice

Add all ingredients to shaking tin.  Add ice and shake.  Double Strain into chilled coupe.  Garnish with fresh Lime Peel.
