Gin Sling

The cocktail that survived through gin’s dark days.

A sling is more of a concept than a drink, with a huge amount of possible variations. The most famous recipe is claimed by the Raffles Hotel in Singapore and is said to have been created for a cocktail competition by the wonderfully named bartender – Ngiam Tong Boom.

A sweet, bright pink concoction, it was based on the Straits Sling, an altogether more refined, dryer drink.

However, the Singapore Sling (often badly made) is the drink that endured on cocktail menus through the years when gin passed, temporarily, out of vogue.

1 ½ oz Fords Gin

1 oz Sweet Vermouth

¾ oz Fresh Lemon Juice

1 oz Simple Syrup

1 dash Angostura Bitters

1 oz Soda Water

Pour the ingredients (except soda) into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake well. Strain into a chilled collins glass filled with ice.
Top with soda. Garnish with a lemon twist.
