Whether it was due to overconsumption of carton Egg Nog as a kid, or the whiff of booze in my glass at too young an age, I grew up never liking Egg Nog. As I grew older everyone got so excited about it every year and every year, I didn’t have the least bit of interest. But as I was bartending, my guests would annually ask if I served a great Egg Nog. Since I didn’t, and didn’t really want to, I had a problem. I had to make my guests happy and also serve something I was proud of. I wanted to create a single serving tribute to Egg Nog that I could produce at will for any guest overflowing with the Holiday spirit.
Flips are a category of mixed drinks that date back to the 17th century. Different from a Nog, they use a whole egg rather than cream to achieve the silky creamy mouthfeel. They can be served warm as in the old days or chilled to your liking.
The Festivus Flip starts with a base of Brandy and then layers flavors of Vanilla, Honey, and Allspice. With grated fresh Nutmeg on top, I finally had a version of a creamy Holiday concoction that I would enjoy drinking. A nog of sorts for the rest of us!
1 ½ oz Pierre Ferrand 1840 Cognac
½ oz Licor 43
1 oz Honey Syrup
1 whole egg
Place all ingredients into a cocktail shaker and Dry Shake very hard and continuously to emulsify all the ingredients together. Add ice to your shaker and shake then Double Strain into and Coffee Glass or Coupe. Garnish with Fresh Grated Nutmeg on top.
If you've never thought about using raw egg in a drink, don't fear!! If you can survive an egg nog, you can survive this! But for futher peace of mind...

What a lovely eggnog cocktail (and I already had all of the ingredients). Thanks for spreading the holiday cheer! I’ll be having this again.

Absolutely delicious. A great balance of mouth feel and flavor. A little boozy without being too boozy. A new holiday favorite!

The Festivus Flip is Fabulous! Talk about "Seasoned" Greetings! It's an instant eggnog style drink that's lighter than creamy nog and just the right amount of boozy for your holiday season!
