Daiquiri

Rum is the most prominent spirit around the world. People in many countries and cultures have been drinking some version of rum, lime and sugar for hundreds of years. Some believe that the creator of the daquiri was an American, Jennings Cox, who ran an iron mine in Cuba and created the drink in the town of Daquiri. Apparently he was planning to make gin cocktails, but Facundo Bacardi was coming to dinner, so he decided to use rum instead of gin. Traditionally this drink is made with white rum to allow the simple syrup and fresh lime juice to shine. However, a variation can be made with a darker, aged rum to bring a caramel flavor to the drink.
